THE MANHYIA Palace Museum, one of the popular tourist sites in Kumasi, has been closed temporarily.
The reason for closing down the museum, palace sources hinted, was to help avert the spread of COVID-19.
The Manhyia Palace Museum, situated inside the Manhyia Palace, attracts people from all corners of the world, daily.
Various people, notably African Americans in the Diaspora, visit the place to learn about the history of the Asante Kingdom.
As at the close of Tuesday, seven people, including one in Obuasi, have tested positive for the virus in Ghana.
Even though the palace has not officially issued a report about the closure, people have lauded the action.
Thorough ScreeningÂ
In a related development, palace officials have instituted a new policy whereby any visitor to the palace is thoroughly screened.
The temperature of visitors to the palace is taken and suspected Covid-19 victims are referred to hospital.
Sittings SuspendedÂ
Meanwhile, reports indicated that traditional sittings in the palace had also been suspended in the meantime.
The President recently announced a temporal ban on gathering of large number of people to avert the spread of the virus.
In line with the President’s directive, the Manhyia Palace has also placed a temporal ban on traditional sittings.
