THE PRESIDENT of Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, has advised stakeholders in the creative arts industry not to take Covid-19 for granted because it is real.
Speaking on Hitz FM on Wednesday, he disclosed that his mother even tested positive for the virus but has recovered now.
He called on people to stop putting pressure on government to go back on its decision to keep nightclubs closed as a measure to stem the spread of the virus.
He described his mom’s situation as very frustrating for him and his family.
“Let’s keep doing what we are doing right. Let’s not follow our passion for how we want to jam or our nightclub life. I told you my mom had Covid…and I know how it feels…How me as Mark I didn’t sleep for weeks… So I know what I have been through,” he disclosed.
“One night my mom called and said her oxygen was finished and then I was hit by another woman at the background saying her oxygen is finished too and she is dying. She has nobody she is calling. I have positioned somebody at Cantonment who will rush to 37 Military Hospital any time my mother will call and when she calls that guy goes to 37, look for a doctor because the doctors don’t just enter the place easily. Before they enter the place, they must sanitize you with machines and the way they even dress is a whole lot…They dress in 20 minutes. If someone is actually dying that is how the person is handled. He must go in fully covered because he’s also protecting himself…These are the things people go through with Covid-19. I hear people say it is a facade. It is not real. I have seen it I have tasted it. One day I will get my mom to come and tell you her story,” he indicated.
In President Akufo-Addo’s last address on Covid-19 update, he maintained that clubs and cinemas must remain closed.
He also advised citizens to keep observing safety protocols, including wearing of face masks. Although some showbiz persons are pushing for the clubs to be opened, Mark thinks contrary.
