The scrap dealer who allegedly stole an iPhone 14 Pro Max mobile phone belonging to American rapper, Meek Mill, was yesterday granted a bail of GH¢50,000 by an Accra Circuit Court.
Nuhu Sulley, according to the court presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, is to provide two sureties who must be public servants as part of the bail condition. The case was adjourned to February 6, 2023, for continuation.
The accused is before the court on a charge of stealing contrary to Section 29 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He pleaded not guilty.
The facts of the case presented by the prosecution led by ASP Maxwell Oppong, named Akwasi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Tourism Authority as the complainant.
It said the accused, 33-year-old Nuhu Sulley, a resident of Madina on December 29, 2022, attended a music concert organised by the complainant at the Independence Square in Accra, where Meek Mill performed as a guest artiste.
“At about 8:20pm on same day, whilst the guest artiste was making his way through the heavy crowd onto the stage, accused who was also among the crowd and was on the route where the artiste was using, stole an iPhone 14 Pro Max mobile phone valued GH¢22,000 from the pocket of the artiste.”
The facts said the accused after stealing the mobile phone left the Independence Square while the complainant reported the matter to the police.
ASP Oppong told the court that the police through intelligence, tracked and traced the mobile phone to the residence of the accused person at Madina, and he was arrested with the phone on December 30, 2022.
“During investigation, accused admitted the offence and after investigation, he was charged with the offence and brought before this Honourable Court,” the brief facts added.
