A 37-YEAR-OLD man, who is believed to be mentally ill, has ended his life through hanging, the police in Ejura in the Ashanti Region, have reported.
The deceased, identified as Sulemana Mohammed, was reportedly found hanging on a rope in his room at Dromankuma near Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The shocking incident happened around 12:30pm on March 10, 2022, when Mohammed was alone in his room. One Issifu Mohammed, who claims to be an elder brother of the deceased, said he saw Mohammed’s lifeless body hanging and so he quickly reported to the police.
The dead body was then removed from the rope and deposited in the Ejura Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, a police report said.
The report, which was sighted by the paper, indicated that Issifu reported to the police that his younger brother was not mentally sound when he was alive. It said Issifu also told the police that Mohammed was alone in the room, and they do not know what came over him to decide to hang himself on the rope to end his life.
“On March 10, 2022, at 14:45 hours, Issifu Mohammed came to the station and reported that same day at 12:30 hours, his younger brother Sulemana Mohammed, aged 37, who was mentally ill, hanged himself dead in his room at Dromankuma.
“The police proceeded to the scene and found a male adult who was identified as Sulemana Mohammed, was found with blue nylon sponge tied around his neck, wearing a pair of jeans trousers, bare chested with a kitchen knife in his right pocket,” the police stated.
The police carefully inspected the body but found no visible marks of violence to suspect foul play, adding that the body was conveyed and deposited at the Ejura Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
In a related development, the police have also disclosed that pathologists have completed autopsy on Mohammed’s body and they did not find any mark of violence to suspect foul play.
“They performed the autopsy and gave verbal cause of death as ‘suicide by hanging due to mental illness.’ The body has since been released to the relatives for interment,” said the police.
