Metro Mass Crash Kills 6

 

Six persons died on Monday afternoon when a Metro Mass Transit Bus, which was heading towards Sunyani, veered off its lane and collided with a taxi from the opposite direction at Bonkwae, near Techiman.

The deceased include Yaw Joe, 40, Yakubu Adams, 32 and a certain Grace, 50.

Three others are yet to be identified, according to police in the Brong Ahafo Region.

All the dead were on board a Daewoo taxi with registration GX 2501-15.

According to police report, Ransford Kumi, the driver of the DAF Metro Mass Bus, with registration number GS 9270-Z, lost control of the vehicle, veered off its lane and collided with the taxi.

All persons on board the taxi, including the driver, Yaw Joe, died instantly.

The driver of Metro Mass Transit Bus has since been arrested by the police to assist in police investigations.

The Techiman Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Andrews Okonenge, said four of the deceased – two males and two females- were teachers stationed at Mmaampehia and its environs along the Sunyani-Techiman stretch.

The Regional Police spokesman, Chief Inspector Kinsley Augustine Oppong, told DAILY GUIDE in a telephone interview that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the Holy Family Hospital at Techiman pending autopsy.
