Some projects initiated by the government to help promote quality education in the Western Region have been completed and handed over to beneficiary schools.

The projects include a six-unit classroom block with six-seater toilet facility for Takoradi Senior High School (SHS).

The rest are a six-unit classroom block for Tarkwa SHS, and a dining hall block with a kitchen for Fiaseman SHS, both in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.

At brief ceremonies to hand over the projects, the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, said the government had built about 31 school blocks for SHS across the region to address the infrastructure deficit of the schools.

He said the government believed that improved infrastructure would enhance the delivery of quality education.

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, Alex Kweku Duah, was grateful to the government for delivering on the promises made concerning education in the area.

He called on the heads of the beneficiary schools to ensure they maintained the facilities very well, adding “we don’t want the government’s money to be wasted.”

“I promise that our supervisors will frequently visit the schools to ensure that the beneficiaries make good use of the blocks,” he stressed.

The Headmaster of Fiaseman SHS, John Kofi Sego, said the dining hall complex of the school was really in a deplorable state until the government’s timely intervention.

“We were left with no option than to pray for divine intervention and fortunately for us, the NPP government heard our predicament and decided to come to our aid.

“We are humbled by this timely intervention, and we are really grateful to the President and the government for the gesture,” he said.
