Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has lauded workers in the region for their continuous support and contributions which have helped put the region on a higher pedestal.
In a statement issued on May Day, the minister said the government had instituted some interventions to bring relief to both formal and informal sector workers, adding that the vulnerable in society had not been left out in the face of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
May 1 is observed worldwide in commemoration of the achievements of labour movement. The Day was observed with a durbar of workers in the region, but the Covid-19 outbreak could not make it possible this year because of the ban on social gathering.
Mr. Darko-Mensah stated that the government had mitigated the suffering of workers and the entire citizen with free water and electricity, as well as some financial support, to cushion both the public and the private sector enterprises.
“We want a well-developed network of infrastructure and the highest standard of living for our people,” he emphasized.
The minister assured the public that the government would not relent in working hard in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic to make life comfortable for Ghanaians.
“Government is assuring you, workers and businesses in Ghana that you are its true development partners. Your ideas are critical in the management and development of the nation,” the statement indicated.
He was pleased that the private sector had risen to the challenge in leading the production of personal protective equipment (PPE), test kits and hand-washing accessories in the country.
“I look forward to all workers giving off their best at all times even during this pandemic when many of you are working from home,” he said.
The minister, on behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council, expressed profound gratitude to all the frontline health workers in the region.
