Latvia’s representative to this year’s Miss Heritage Global 2019, Miss Alisa Miskovska, made history on Saturday when she was crowned the winner of the beauty pageant held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
She took home a cash prize of $10,000 and souvenirs from the sponsors.
Miss Eugenia Abotsi, who represented Ghana at the event, was adjudged the first runner-up and Miss Ayen Emily from Uganda grabbed the second-runner-up position.
The first and second runners-up also took home $5,000 and $1,000 respectively.
Other prizes for the winners include holiday trips to different tourist destinations in the world, among other packages.
The event brought together contestants from some participating countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Netherlands, Costa Rica, Equador, Chad, Central African Republic, Uganda, Togo, Ivory Coast, United Kingdom and Ghana.
Miss Alisa Miskoska expressed joy and thanked Ghanaians for the warm reception, adding that she did not expect to be crowned winner and hoped to realise her dream of giving back to society.
She said as a newly-crowned queen, she will use her position to impart knowledge into children not only in her country but around the world about the importance of their cultures.
Mr. Nhlanhla Shabangu, President of Miss Heritage Global pageant, disclosed that the pageant was used as a tool to foster global peace and reach others from other countries.
“No matter where you from, we are all one people,” he said, commending the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) for hosting the pageant and the ‘Year of Return’.
Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GTA, said it was a great opportunity to host the world as part of the ‘Year of Return’ celebrations and remembering the 400 years of African resilience.
He said the pageant was to show unity among countries and showcase the beauty of Ghana to the rest of the world.
