Freddie Blay
Almost all the 29 constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region together with the Regional Executives have thrown their weight behind Acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Freddie Wormasor Blay, who is seeking to become the substantive Chairman.
The Central and Western Regional executives have also promised to give their votes to Mr. Blay, a lawyer, to become the substantive Chairman.
The ruling NPP is expected to elect new leaders at the party’s annual delegates’ congress to be held in Koforidua on July 7, 2018, to steer the affairs of the party in the next four years. In the heat of the campaign, 23 constituencies and Regional Executives in BA have said they are going to maintain the Acting Chairman who is credited for supervising the party’s resounding victory over the then ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general election which brought the NPP to power.
At a just-ended tour of the region by the Blay Campaign Team led by Mr. Blay himself, the regional constituency executives unanimously pledged their unflinching support for the experienced lawyer to continue to lead the party.
At a meeting in Sunyani last Thursday, the NPP Regional Secretary, Kofi Ofosu Boateng, reading a statement on behalf of all the executives, acknowledged the leadership qualities of Mr. Blay and promised not to let him down.
“In politics no one changes a winning team and by this I am referring to Mr. Freddie Blay’s role in the 2016 elections among other impressive achievements,” he said, adding “we admire his sheer endurance, toughness, perseverance and ability to get over the top of issues.”
He said “this is the track record of Mr. Blay and we are convinced that he has a lot more positives to offer to the political fortunes of our dear NPP in subsequent years.”
The Regional secretary said “Freddie Blay’s campaign of re-energizing the entire NPP, running an efficient and well-resourced party machinery from national level to the polling stations, ensuring that the party’s structures and organs are effectively managed, resonates with us.”
“We wish to announce officially that after receiving, listening to and questioning Mr. Freddie Blay, we are convinced that he is the best man to steer the affairs of the NPP and we wish to endorse his candidature and declare our total and unflinching support for him in the upcoming annual delegate’s conference.”
Meanwhile, the Western and Central Regional Executives of the NPP have also declared their unwavering support for Freddie Blay for the July 7 National Delegates Conference to be held in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua.
According to them, the former Ellembele MP is the right person to steer the affairs of the party and help it retain power in 2020.
Central & Western
The executives of the two regions made the declaration at a joint press conference which was also attended by all the 26 and 23 constituency executives in the Western and Central Region of the party respectively.
Also present were the NPP Parliamentary caucus in the two regions including Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado who doubles as chairman for the MPs Caucus for Western Region as well as Rev. Ntim Fodjuor, MP for Assin South and other MPs from Central Region.
According to them, Mr. Blay, a former MP who assumed the chairmanship position of the party in 2015 following the suspension of Paul Afoko, managed to help the party win the 2016 general election.
Charles Onuawonto Bissue, Western Regional Secretary of the NPP observed that Mr. Blay did an exceptional job for the party when it was in opposition and therefore deserves the chairmanship position to continue his good works.
He stated that when things went haywire in the party prior to the last general election, it took Freddie Blay and the other national officers to steer the affairs and made the party very vibrant to win the elections.
The executives also declared their support for the aspiring National Organizer, Sammi Awuku, the aspiring General Secretary, John Boadu and a National Youth Organizer aspirant, Dominic Eduah.
