The NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has donated a specialised vaccine refrigerator and 10 medical beds to the Suntreso Government Hospital to strengthen its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The advanced refrigerator and medical beds were handed over to the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Agyarko Poku, at a short ceremony on Monday.
The MP said the donation was for the hospital’s Isolated Centre and ensure that the health facility can store safe and effective vaccines for the benefit of his constituents.
According to him, the gesture is part of his office’s health outreach initiative being spearheaded by the Nhyiaeso Constituency Health Committee to improve public health, and promote welfare needs of the people.
“Before I became an MP I made promises, one of such is the establishment of committees to help me execute my work. The committees include education, health, security, community sanitation, and welfare,” he stated.
“Today is the turn of the Health Committee. It has a lot of activities to undertake in the coming months. Health and education are bedrock for development and what comes next is good management of resources,” Dr. Amoah who is popularly known as “Sticker” indicated.
The Medical Superintendent of Suntreso Government Hospital, Dr. Poku, who was excited by the donation, expressed gratitude to the MP for the kind gesture.
“Medical beds and chairs are very essential things to our work. We do not have a situation where a bed will go empty for say two days or three, and this contributes to increasing deterioration,” he said.
“We have received 10 beds today and I must say we will need more of these beds because of the growing number of attendees to the hospital. 800 people visit this facility every day for treatment.
“Hospital is a place for everyone, and so if you have, generously support us because it is in your interest to do so. Our challenge is what is known as no space syndrome,” he indicated.
