BRYAN Acheampong Foundation (BAF) has launched its 2019 Youth in Apprenticeship (YIA) programme on how to become a seamstress under the livelihood empowerment unit of the foundation.
The foundation is owned by Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, who doubles as the Minister of State in charge of National Security. The foundation aims at helping his constituents to acquire basic skills and training.
The Livelihood Empowerment Manager of BAF, Anthony Mankona, speaking at the launch of the event, explained that YIA has the potential to provide skills to young people, especially those who appear to have been locked out of the mainstream education.
“The apprenticeship training programme is a promising avenue to deliver skill training to the youth,” he said, adding that 10 young people were selected from four communities in the Kwahu East District to be trained in seamstressing which is fully sponsored by the foundation.
The beneficiaries were provided with BAF branded sewing machines, scissors, tape measures, threads, needles, grey bafta, office pins, tailor’s chalk, machine oil, specimen albums, stools, uniforms, among others, needed for their apprenticeship period.
The trainees who are expected to undergo the three-year training had their customary fees paid by the foundation.
