FIRST DEPUTY Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, yesterday led a group of parliamentarians to pay their respects to the late La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, at the La Royal Palace in the Greater Accra Region.

It was the fourth day of a week-long funeral which has been programmed for political and traditional leaders to mourn and file past the remains of the late paramount chief as the body lay in repose in the capital, Accra.

Nii Dr. Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III died at the age of 89 and reigned for 32 years.

Among MPs, who paid their respects, were Lydia Seyram Alhassan (Ayawaso West Wugon), Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe (Ada), Yves Hanson-Nortey (Tema Central), Sheila Penelope Bartels (Ablekuma North), Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye (Odododiodio), Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije (Ablekuma South), and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings (Korle Klottey).

The royal funeral of the late paramount chief got underway from Monday, and dignitaries are expected to join scores of people for a memorial and thanksgiving service on Sunday, as part of a series of commemorations.

Among the activities for the one-week long funeral ceremony are private activities to be carried out by the leadership of the La Traditional Council, file-past by people of the La community as well as political and traditional leaders, a burial service and a private burial.

Earlier on in the week, crowds of La communities filed past the body as it lay in repose, but small crowds had already gathered in the La Royal Palace grounds when the lawmakers went there to pay their respect and offered drinks in line with tradition.
