Nana Akufo-Adoo and running mate, Alhaji Bawumia and other NPP party executives and faithfuls at the funeral
Hundreds of people from all walks of life over the weekend stormed Cape Coast, the Central Regional capital, to participate in the final funeral rites of the late Mrs Mary Adu Boahen, widow of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) first presidential candidate, Professor Albert Adu-Boahen (also no more).
The mourners included former President Jerry John Rawlings; former President John Agyekum Kufuor; the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo; Alan Kyerematen, NPP Campaign Sector Committee Chairperson for Trade and Industry and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, among other renowned personalities. The burial service was held at the Christ Church Cathedral.
In a tribute, Nana Addo described Mrs Adu Boahen as warm-hearted, solicitous of the needs of all, fun-loving with a humorous, boisterous nature.
Nana Akufo-Addo stated that Mrs Adu Boahen’s determination, tenacity, love for the country and above all her courage, were part of the glue that held the cream of many political activists together.
He noted that her contribution was considerable and that democratic Ghana owes her a great debt of gratitude.
“She is certainly one of those to whom I would have dedicated my victory in 2012, if it indeed materialized,” he added
Former President Kufuor described Mrs Adu Boahen as not only a virtuous wife, but also organizer behind the scenes and the mainstay in the life of Prof Albert Adu Boahen, one of Ghana’s foremost historians and trail blazer of the NPP tradition.
“She has played her part well and must be saluted by all in the party and it has been her wish that the party she toiled for would return to power in the impending elections. We must therefore, close ranks and work for victory come December 7, 2016,” he charged.
Mrs Adu Boahen was born in May 1926 in Cape Coast and died on October 9, 2016.
She left behind children and grand children.
