MTN Ghana Foundation, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has donated Protective Personal Equipment (PPE), particularly nose masks, to the Khairiyah Islamic Basic School in the Korle Klottey Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The donation is a direct response to the recent alert issued by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), urging the public to wear nose masks as a precautionary measure against the adverse climatic conditions.
Education Portfolio Advisor of MTN Foundation, Ebenezer Tekpeh, said the donation would be replicated in other basic schools in the Municipality, making a total of six schools.
“We are starting with Khairiyah Islamic Basic School because our Head Office is situated in Korle Klottey, but we will extend it to other five schools as well,” he stated.
“We are making plans to ensure that we go round the country when possible to get these school children the nose masks because we know that they are the most vulnerable when it comes to some of these respiratory issues as a result of the bad climatic conditions causing a lot of dust in the air,” he said.
He said a similar donation would be made to the remaining five schools including St. Barnabas.
The number of the nose masks to be donated to the six schools sum up to about 270,000 reusable and KN95 nose masks.
Ebenezer Tekpeh further noted, “we want to start this exercise so that other cooperate bodies will see it and also start doing a similar thing across the country.”
Headmistress of Khairiyah Islamic Basic School, Hajia Abdul Samat Amina showed appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their support and love.
She has also pleaded with the government and other cooperate bodies to assist the school in terms of providing computers for them to help the school children learn smoothly and get more access to education.
She also pleaded for uniforms, school bags, socks, books, pen and other learning material for the students since many of them are not under the care of their parents.
