‘MultiChoice Is Largest African Content Investor’

Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, has stated that the company which operates DStv, a major satellite television service in Sub-Saharan Africa, invested millions of dollars in producing original African content for its clients.

MultiChoice also owns GOtv, a minor service operating in over nine countries, and Showmax service.

Speaking at the Ghana Content and Product media showcase in Accra, Alex Okyere noted that the MultiChoice group is known as the home of African content providing an array of the best talents from across the continent and delivering consistently superior production value, making it highly sought-after designed for the viewing pleasure of it clients.

GOtv provides a variety of Ghanaian content, which has energised the local movie industry and introduced new lead characters in their content.

Notable movies that have made trends since its release are ‘Market Queens’, ‘Ekaw Danfo’, ‘Madam’, ‘To Have and To Hold’, ‘Leg Work’, ‘Husband Material’, and other international movie content, with ‘Kasa No Ye More’ set to be premiered in the coming months.

Alex Okyere stated that “MultiChoice being Africans most loved storyteller, it’s not just about amplifying the amazing stories across the continent but also creating, writing and producing authentic and original programmes that resonate with clients on our local channels Akwaaba Magic and Akwaaba Magic Abusua.”

No one compares with MultiChoice, DStv, GOtv, or Showmax in terms of investment in content, broadcasting infrastructure, talent, and employing a significant part of the workforce in this industry, which is in line with our brand promise which is enriching lives.”

He further noted that the MultiChoice group is fulfilling the promise made to its subscribers to produce great content to suit customer’s needs.

“We produce exclusively live football from over 14 leagues and tournaments and provide local language commentary to enrich our customer’s lives. And we will be launching our online streaming App for GOtv customers which will enable our clients to enjoy our content anywhere they find themselves,” he added.

Commissioning Editor, Akwaaba Magic, Nathalie Anang, on her part, indicated that in their quest to revamp the movie industry, they have collaborated with the Kumawood and Ghallywood acts in most of the content produced to serve the Ghanaian audience.
