MUSIGA Congratulates Tourism Minister

Catherine Afeku

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has congratulated the Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, on her appointment as Chairperson of the Leadership Taskforce of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

The appointment was announced at the first meeting of the Leadership Taskforce which took place on January 25, 2018, at the headquarters of the world body in Madrid, Spain.

MUSIGA believes the minister’s appointment is due to her fortitude and determination to place Ghanaian tourism on a pedestal.

According to the MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour, Madam Afeku’s appointment to the leadership role in the world organisation “is a demonstration of her dynamic leadership of her ministry which aims at offering opportunities for the players in the sector to excel.”

He added, “MUSIGA assures Madam Minister of our unalloyed support in effort to improve the fortunes of tourism and the creative arts in Ghana.”

The Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, had earlier congratulated Madam Afeku on the appointment in a letter dated January 29.

“I would like to express my gratitude for your presence and valuable input and leadership role at the first presidential meeting of the Leadership Taskforce which took place on January 25, at the UNWTO Headquarters in the framework of the Women in Tourism Empowerment Programme, Focus on Africa,” Mr. Pololikashvili said.

The secretary general said he will look forward to the collaboration between UNWTO and Ghana for the Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Africa in the Tourism Sector, which is scheduled to be hosted in Accra, Ghana.
