Executives of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have paid a courtesy call on the Minister of tourism, Arts & Culture, Catherine Afeku, at the ministry in Accra to officially brief the minister on the upcoming MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball slated for December 29 at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
The executives, led by the president of the union, Bice Osei Kufour aka Obour, briefed the minister about the projects being undertaken by the union.
Obuor told the minister that the union would chart a new path to develop musicians and other collaborators to send Ghanaian music to the international market.
He said the Presidential Grand Ball is an initiative of MUSIGA which began in 2013 as an event to bring together captains of industry and leaders of society under the auspices of the sitting President of Ghana.
As part of this year’s event, Obour revealed that a number of individuals and institutions will be honoured with the music pillar award for their meritorious contribution to the development of the music industry in Ghana.
He added that five music heroes such as A.B Crentsil, J.A Adofo, C.K Mann, Nana Kwame Ampadu I and former chairman of the National Commission on Culture, Ebo Hawkson, will be honoured at this year’s event.
Madam Afeku expressed her ministry’s full support for the upcoming presidential grand ball.
She assured the board that President Akufo-Addo will be present at the ball.
Madam Afeku commended the union for their work with the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) and the board for the decision to celebrate five music heroes at this year’s event.
The 2nd Vice Chairman of the Presidential Grand Ball Board, Kwame Sefa-Kayi, thanked the minister for the warm reception accorded the board members and assured her of the firm resolve of the board to ensure that the ball provides the necessary support for AMWeF.
