Ofori Amponsah
Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has made a startling revelation about his marriage, saying it was the reason he went off music scene for some time.
In an interview with Kofi TV, Ofori disclosed that he caught his wife in their matrimonial bed with his friend.
He didn’t mention the name of the friend but added that the incident drove him into depression, hence he decided to abandonhis music career for a while.
Ofori hit the limelight after working with Daddy Lumba in 1999 on the album ‘Wo Ho Kyere’. Then he released his first album titled ‘Asew’ in 2001. That was followed by ‘Meprawo’ and ‘Rakia’ albums in 2002 and 2004. He also released other works as ‘Otoolege’ featuring Kofi Nti, Barosky and K.K Fosu. The rest of his works include ‘Emmanuella’ and ‘Odwo’ which featured Samini.
But somewhere along the line, he went off the music industry.
“Someone I helped entered my home and destroyed my marriage. Someone I opened my gates to could do that to me.
That day I had a show at the National Theatre but I performed poorly on stage because I was surprised that someone I helped would do that to me. Since then, I couldn’t write, sing or do anything. For about three years, I was shut. No shows, nothing. I was in my room. I became lonely,” he revealed.
“The only thing I could remember at that moment was to pray. I was there one day when a prophet called me and advised me that if I don’t run to God, nothing will work out well for me,” he added.
Finally when he decided to return to music, he came as a gospel musician.
He subsequently became a pastor but he couldn’t keep up.
