Najong 1 Elders Call For Minister’s Head

The traditional rulers and elders briefing the media

Chiefs and elders of Najong 1 in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region have called for the resignation of the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Solomon Boar, for the killing of four persons at the market centre in the area.

“The current Member of Parliament and deputy northern regional minister, Solomon Boar, as a matter of principle, should do the honourable thing by resigning,” the chiefs charged.

They accused Mr Boar, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bunkpurugu; former MP Laar John Nirokinan and one Kombat popularly known as Saa, for masterminding the attack at Najong 1.

The traditional rulers and the elders called for the immediate arrest of Saa – a businessman and transport owner who they claim has illegally been transporting weapons to the area.

The opinion leaders further demanded an immediate investigation into the killings and bring the perpetrators to book.

Residents have blamed the recent killings at Najong 1 on absence of a police station in the area.

The killings have resulted in the closure of schools in the farming community.

The Bauk and Tanmung clans’ conflict arose over a productive parcel of land which was released by the Bauk clan to accommodate a Fulani tenant.

After 2010, the fragile peace in the area was disturbed by the Tanmung chief at Sayoo when he demanded that the Bauk people consult him to pour libation before putting up houses in their own land; but upon refusal to meet his demand, some youth mobilized themselves and launched an attack on the Bauk.
