Popular media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has publicly expressed her support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent promise to provide free dialysis treatment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, announced that beginning December 1, 2024, NHIS will cover the cost of dialysis, a development aimed at alleviating the financial burden on kidney patients across the country.

Following the announcement, Nana Aba took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to share her enthusiasm, writing: “I’m beyond excited that from December 1, dialysis treatment in Ghana will be free under NHIS! Gosh! This is a huge relief for patients who’ve struggled with costs for so long. Thank you! Thank you @MBawumia for making this essential care accessible to all.”

Her post has since ignited a spirited discussion on social media. Many supporters of the policy praised her for advocating for accessible healthcare, commending her acknowledgement of the financial challenges dialysis patients face. They see her endorsement as an important voice supporting an initiative that could bring relief to many Ghanaians struggling with high treatment costs.

However, not all responses were positive. Some critics accused Nana Aba of aligning with the NPP for political purposes, suggesting that her praise may signal partisan bias.

While opinions remain divided, her comments have brought additional attention to the discussion of healthcare access in the country.
