Nana Condemns Dixcove Chief Attack

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has condemned in no uncertain terms the brutality meted out to the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, by some assailants last Monday dawn.

The President, who was in the Western Region on a two-day working visit, went to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi, where the victim is receiving treatment, to visit him and wish him well.

He later condemned the act when he addressed the chiefs and people of Axim in the region.

The President was also scheduled to visit Lower Dixcove Traditional Area to cut sod for the construction of a landing site as part of his visit but the programme had to be cancelled because of the incident.

“What happened at Lower Dixcove should not be entertained. We call on all stakeholders to ensure peace prevails in the area,” he stressed.

He then called on the security agencies to look for the perpetrators and bring them to book.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional House of Chiefs has called on the government to set up a committee to investigate the matter.

The Acting President of the House, Awulae Amihere Kpanyili III, indicated that the House believes the committee could bring some finality to the problem.

“The act was a wicked one. It is a wicked act. Nobody dare touch a Ghanaian, let alone using machete and try to harm anybody,” he pointed out.

He also urged the police to expedite investigations and fish out the perpetuators of such a heinous crime.

It would be recalled that Nana Kwesi Agyeman was abducted by aides of rival Upper Dixcove Chief, Nana Hema Dekyi, over boundaries dispute.

The captors were said to have used dynamite to break the main gate and entered Nana Agyeman’s palace and took him and four others to the palace of the chief of Upper Dixcove, where they were subjected to severe beatings.
