Rotarian Nana Gyamfi has assumed office as the President of Rotary Club of Accra Airport (RCAA) District 9102.

He replaced Rotarian Kofi Adu-Mensah, who has occupied the role with great leadership and dedication to service.

Rotarian Gyamfi will serve as President for the year 2020/2021.

In his acceptance speech, Rotarian Gyamfi stated that
for over a century, Rotary has served as an avenue of Service to Humanity and Leadership Development.

“In my time as a member of Rotary Club of Accra Airport, I have been given the opportunity to serve in various capacities and it has always been an honour to serve the Club and humanity,” he recounted.

According to him, the year 2020/2021 will be a challenging one in the wake of the CoronaVirus pandemic.

However, he stated that challengers bring out the best in us Rotarians and there could not have been a better time to rise up as Rotarians.

“The Club is celebrating 20 years of its existence and achievements. In this time, we must all be proud of the several service projects we have carried out to the benefit of our needy communities,” he said, adding that this is remarkable and could not have been done without your full participation, commitment and resources.

He expressed gratitude to the Charter members of RCAA who he said have worked tirelessly and continue to serve with zeal, noting that “Rotary is in their blood.”

“As I applaud you all, permit me to single out a Major donor of our Club. This member lives Rotary, thinks Rotary and makes it a point to attend meetings. Fellow Rotarians let us applaud PAG Mercy Bannerman,” he said.

He recounted that the Rotary theme for the year 2019/2020 was Rotary Connects, adding that the theme for the year 2020/2021 is Rotary Opens Opportunities / Doors.

“The power to connect with our roots, heritage, tradition, humanity and our communities is the foundation of Service Above Self. Connecting with the youth will be the “seedlings” we plant and nurture to replace the “old dying trees”. It will be the Opportunity to open Doors for our Rotractors and Interactors to participate and serve with renewed energy and with innovative ideas. This is the vision of Rotary International. We must be revolutionary in our approach to the challenges ahead,” he said.

“Our Membership should be dynamic, all-inclusive, and all-involving. I believe our new approach to our financial commitments, obligations and activities will be the attraction into the family of Rotary of people of like minds and purpose,” he urged.

“COVID-19 identifies new challenges, so it offers us opportunities to find solutions to these challenges. Innovations such as virtual meetings, and physical meetings with social distancing protocols are ways that we must incorporate to ensure RCAA thrives and remains effective and relevant,” according to him.

“Our vision for the year 2020/2021 is to collaborate with Traditional Governance in Peace and Conflict resolution to promote peace. Traditional governance will assist to facilitate our Projects in the communities we will focus on. We intend to collaborate with Traditional governance for effective delivery and monitoring of our service projects. We intend to mount the Four Way Test billboards with Rotary branding in all paramouncies across the country,” he stated.

“Fund raising is key to supporting projects in Rotary. It is incumbent on us therefore to work effectively with our sponsors and partners for our mutual benefit. Our fund raising efforts should not be limited to a handful of top tier organisations but we must look to tapping into small and medium businesses who share our vision to raise funds not only for the Club but also for the Rotary Foundation.”

“Issues of health are brought into focus with the CoronaVirus pandemic confronting us. The year ahead leaves us no option but to confront these challenges with renewed energy with our partners and sponsors.

The Engineers Without Borders from the USA have agreed to collaborate with us in the fight against COVID19. For the first time in our club history we will be partnering with the Rotary Club of Ring Road Central in this project.”

“The Water and Sanitation project with USAID is ongoing across the country and RCAA is committed to the successful implementation of its goals.

In partnership with Rotary club of Limburgerhof/Vorderpfalz in Germany and a Grant from the Rotary Foundation, RCAA will educate young girls from very deprived areas in Accra to the tune of $75,000USD to learn coding. This is known as the “Soronko Project”.
