President Akufo-Addo left the country for the United States yesterday to attend a high-level event to mark the achievement of the Qatar Foundation’s objective of enrolling 10 million children for quality primary school education.

The President is attending the event in his capacity as co-Chair of the Group of Advocates of Eminent Persons of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the invitation of Moza Bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, in partnership with the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

He would also be in Sacramento, California to deliver the keynote address at the 27th Annual Africa Peace Awards, and launch the African Peace Fellows Programme at the California State University in Sacramento.

The President was escorted to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by Vice President Bawumia, Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, the Ministers of Defence and Interior Dominic Nitiwul and Ambrose Dery and some security chiefs.

He was accompanied on the trip by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.

President Akufo-Addo and his entourage are expected in Ghana on Monday, 30th April, 2018.

In his absence, Vice President would act as President in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
