Nana Mourns Agyarko

President Akufo-Addo consoling Ms Leonora Agyarko, a sister to the late Emmauel Agyarko 

President Akufo-Addo yesterday visited the residence of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko.

On Wednesday afternoon, speculations about his death had become rife on social media.

Hours later, it was confirmed that he had indeed passed away in the United States of America where he had gone to receive medical attention for an ailment suspected to be stomach cancer.

The distraught President Akufo-Addo visited his residence at the Airport Hills to commiserate with the bereaved family before embarking on the tour of the Eastern Region.

President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Staff, Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu.

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, also visited the residence in the company of National Organiser, Sammy Awuku and National Women’s Organiser, Kate Gyamfua and Dominic Eduah, defeated National Youth Organiser aspirant.

Family and friends of the late MP had gathered there to mourn his passing.

They were received by Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, who literally served as linguist for the bereaved family due to his relations with the widow.

President Akufo-Addo expressed sadness at the death of the MP and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He said the departed MP was one of the pillars of the NPP in Parliament where he represented the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

The family thanked the president for taking time off his busy schedule to commiserate with them. They also promised to update him on arrangements for the funeral.

The deceased was the younger brother of Boakye Agyarko, the immediate-past Minister of Energy, who was relieved of his post for inexplicable reasons.

He left behind a wife and seven children.
