President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo has jumped into the number one spot fray with a social media post suggesting his excitement over the first spot on the ballot paper on election day on December 7.
The Tuesday evening exercise to pick the slots by representatives of the political parties looked ordinary but it was a significant march towards December 7.
For those who believe in the power of figures, they could not afford to ignore reading meanings into the numbers attached to the slots that came the way of the various players.
The two-tier exercise, although not a novelty, was largely misunderstood by NDC representative Boamah Otokunor, who questioned the integrity of it all.
Although he eventually had to succumb to the rules of the Electoral Commission (EC), the number two slot his party got has already been capitalised upon for political strategy of the opposition party.
It was the NPP which won the day; the number one being any day, an auspicious position on a crucial ballot.
Little wonder the President’s palpable excitement as contained in his Facebook post following news about the number one choice by his party’s representative at the EC headquarters in Accra.
Wherever Mr. President was at the time of the balloting, his mind was somewhat at the EC headquarters wondering which figure was going to come the way of the NPP.
Would it be number four? He could be asking as did his supporters who have been already working with the figure in the ‘Four More For Nana’ chorus.
The President, the flagbearer of the ruling party, could have easily used for effect the number four had his party’s representative at the venue chosen that figure. The NPP mantra ‘4 More For Nana To Do More’ would have wittily been contained by that figure.
But, of course, the figure one representing the first in a contest of this significance overshadows number four under the circumstances.
President Akufo-Addo’s ‘number one on the ballot’ as he highlights in his post encapsulates his excitement beyond doubt.
As he relishes the position picked by his party, he continues with a plea to Ghanaians ‘let’s maintain the first position on 7th December 2020 to do more for Ghanaians. Vote for Akufo-Addo and the NPP. #4MoreForNana,” he posted.
What an opportunity to nonetheless capture the ‘Four More To Do More’ political mantra.
Managers of the campaign strategies of the NPP have had their assignment defined by the number one slot win.
While some have turned to an outright significance of the figure in their campaign utterances, others have looked elsewhere coining as they do all manner of witty political catch phrases; some with a touch of Scriptures in Akan.
The campaign season could not have had a more significance impetus than the number one slot for the NPP—and the President is savouring it with all his fingers.
