President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday swore into office two prominent legal brains onto the Supreme Court bench.

The swearing of the judicial oath, oath of secrecy and oath of allegiance by Professor Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu and Yonny Kulendi brought to four the number of nominees passed by Parliament for onward appointment onto the top court.

The President last week had sworn in two sitting Court of Appeal judges, Justices Clemence Jackson Honyenuga and Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu, who is on record to be the first Muslim to become a Supreme Court judge in Ghana.

At a colourful ceremony at the Jubilee House, Accra, Justice Kulendi promised to let his conscience be his guide at all times in the discharge of his duties in his new role.

“I shall demonstrate uncompromising fidelity to the Constitution, the law and the evidence before me; I shall remain true to my judicial oath, my conscience and God…this is a charge I promise to keep with every resolve and determination in my being,” he added.

On her part, Justice Prof. Mensa-Bonsu said “I have every hope that the values and work habits that have propelled me this far would enable me to contribute to the nurturing of a society based on the rule of law and that would guarantee peace and security for my grandchildren and for succeeding generations.”

The President congratulated and wished them well in their endeavours.
