Nana Asiedu Keteke I
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, was on Saturday installed as the “Nkosoɔhene” (Development Chief) of Agona Kwanyako in recognition of his continuous support for the people of the area.
The businessman and politician is widely known in the Central Region for his philanthropic efforts, especially for supporting many young people through education and vocational training.
Apart from scores of residents and chiefs who witnessed the installation ceremony, other government delegation that graced the colourful ceremony amid drumming and dancing include the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and the Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Speaking after the installation ceremony, Asiedu Keteke I, known in private life as Dr. Richard Asiedu, pledged to support the chiefs and people in addressing some of the challenges facing them, including unemployment and inadequate infrastructure.
He thanked the traditional authorities and the people of Agona Kwanyako for the honour bestowed on him, and urged individuals and companies operating in the area to support the community.
“Whatever Kwanyako does, we will involve ourselves, and that is what has touched our father, Nana Ampem Darko’s heart. Today, he has honoured me, my family, and the NDC party. This comes with a lot of responsibilities, and I know I can handle it.
“My heartfelt desire is for the youth to gain employment, and we also need basic infrastructure, with the major priorities being roads and a hospital. If you are an organisation and you are getting direct benefit from the community, it is important that you also give back to them,” he stated.
According to him, residents both home and abroad have contributed towards the completion of a hospital project in the area, but the facility remains unfinished.
“Our residents at home and abroad have helped in efforts to complete the hospital, but we have not been able to finish it. Now that I am the development chief, I know I will secure the necessary support to see these projects through,” he added.
The development chief also announced plans to establish ‘Keteke Foundation’ as part of efforts to formalise his philanthropic gestures to reach out to many others in the area.
