Koku Anyidoho
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially suspended its former Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, from the party following two petitions from two registered party members calling for his outright dismissal.
In their petitions, the two, Mubarak Abdul-Karim and Eric Adjei, Oti Regional Communication Officer and Bono Deputy Regional Communication Officer respectively, claimed that the former deputy general secretary consistently and publicly made certain pronouncements which damaged the reputation of the party as against the party’s constitution, and should therefore be dismissed from the party for his conduct.
In an official letter dated February 8, 2021 announcing Mr. Anyidoho’s suspension and signed by the party’s general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the party said the functional executive committee (FEC) sat on January 20, 2021 to consider the petitions of the two members and took the decision to suspend him.
The general secretary said in the suspension letter that the FEC took the decision in accordance with article 46(1), 46(6) and 46 (8) (b) to suspend the former general secretary, pending the hearing and final determination of the petitions against his conduct by the national disciplinary committee of the party.
In the petition of Mr. Adjei, he argued that the former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC had consistently on his official Twitter handle and in mainstream media made pronouncements which damaged the reputation of the party and brought the image of the party into disrepute.
The petitioner catalogued some of the recent tweets of Mr. Anyidoho that on January 16, 2021, Mr. Koku was reported to have said that the news portals should not refer to him (Koku) as the NDC Deputy General Secretary because the general secretary of the party, Mr. Nketiah, had decreed that he (Koku) did not have the locus to speak on behalf of the party
On January 10, 2021, he tweeted that President Akufo-Addo was a product of the Nkrumah Ideological Institute “and I shall support him to succeed,” the petitioner said
On January 15, 2021, he tweeted “Ghana has a President and a Vice President. Ghana has a Speaker of Parliament. We now have an NPP Majority side of Parliament as declared by the Speaker. Ghana has a Chief Justice. It is only sick minds that will say that Ghana is a banana republic.”
Mr. Adjei further argued that despite all these remarks, it was untenable for Mr. Anyidoho to publicly claim that he was still a “loyal NDC member.”
According to Mr. Adjei, it is clear that utterances and conducts of the former general secretary of the party have been denigrating the image of the party he claims he is a member of.
The petitioner therefore wants the FEC of NDC to consider his petition and refer same to the national disciplinary committee to expel Mr. Anyidoho from the party because his recent utterances and attitude go contrary to Articles 39 and 40 of the party’s constitution.
