NDC Members Join NPP In New Abirim

In a significant blow to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), over 37 of its members in the Abirem Constituency defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday.

This occurred at the Abirim Lorry Station during the visit of the NPP Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign tour to the Constituency in the Eastern Region.

The defection, is seen as a major coup for the NPP, as it seeks to consolidate its support base in the constituency.

The staunch NDC members from the Constituency openly declared their intention to join the ruling party and were given T-shirts that have the embossement of the Abirim NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Charles Owuredu, and the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to wear and declare to join the NPP henceforth.

The defectors, who were welcomed by Dr Bawumia and the NPP leadership, cited the party’s development agenda and the government’s achievements as reasons for their decision.

The move is a significant setback for the NDC, which has been struggling to regain its footing in the Constituency.

Dr Bawumia, who addressed the defectors and other party supporters, hailed the move as a “testament to the NPP’s commitment to development and good governance.”

He assured the defectors of equal opportunities and urged them to work together to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.

The defection is seen as a major boost to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, as he seeks to win over voters in the Region.
