NDC Runs From Ejisu By-Election

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strangely chickened out at the last minute from the Ejisu by-election, which is set to take place on April 30, 2024.

General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who announced this, said the party is not interested in the by-election as its focus is on the December 7 polls.

According to him, the NDC is determined to win the forthcoming general election and will direct all its efforts and resources towards it.

However, DAILY GUIDE sources in the party said the leadership of the NDC has realised that the party stands no chance of winning the Ejisu seat, hence the decision.

Isham Alhassan, the Ashanti Regional NDC Organiser, has also stated that the party will not contest the Ejisu by-election because the former MP, Dr. John Kumah, was allegedly poisoned to death.

“We have in mind that John Kumah was poisoned so the NDC don’t want to benefit from a poison death. Therefore, the NDC is not ready to contest the Ejisu by-election,” he emphasised.

“As the Ashanti Regional NDC Organiser, I’m speaking on authority. We are not ready. We don’t want to benefit from a poisoned death so we won’t contest the Ejisu seat,” he remarked.

Alhassan stated that the presidential and parliamentary elections for this year are just around the corner, therefore, it makes no economic sense to expend resources on a by-election.

“Given the time limit between this by-election and the December 7 polls, if the EC does not conduct this by-election soon, any political party that contests this poll will cause financial loss,” he argued.

“We will use our resources to focus on the December 7 polls. Contesting the Ejisu by-election will not help our December 7 agenda,” Alhassan noted.
