The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to journalists in the Western Region to partner with the party in its quest to clinch victory in the upcoming general elections.
The party asserted that the country has been heading in the wrong direction for over seven years, stressing that things are falling apart.
Addressing a press soiree organised by the NDC for a group of journalists in Takoradi recently, Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the party, claimed that nothing is working in the country and that the government has betrayed the trust of the people.
He alleged that the only thing thriving today in Ghana is corruption, nepotism, arrogance of power and insensitivity on the part of the leadership of the country.
He insisted that the call for journalists’ support was a civil one meant to save the country and the Western Region in particular.
“There is no hope, and disillusionment is at an all-time high. And so, if we sit down for this government to continue for four more years, I dare say that we may not have a country called Ghana by 2028,” he indicated.
“And so, we have a mission as a political party whose mission is to save our dear country. We are on a mission to rescue and redeem our country.”
Sammy Gyamfi indicated that the NDC will need like-minded, patriotic citizens and people who still have a conscience and love for Ghana to join the party, adding, “The NDC sees journalists as key agents and partners in our quest to develop Ghana.”
“So we need you. We need your esteemed platforms. For those who write, we need your pens, for the cameramen, we need your cameras, for producers here, we need your skills for us to tell the story of the Ghanaian.
“We want to partner with you to make sure that we speak for the people of the Western Region, whose water bodies are being destroyed like there is no tomorrow as a result of Galamsey,” he stated.
He told the journalists that, “If you join this struggle, you are not joining a political party, you are supporting a cause for change in the governance of this country, so your children and children’s children can have a future.”
The National Communications Officer assured that the next NDC government will remember journalists who stood to be counted when they were needed most, and those who heeded the call of Ghanaians to save them.
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, Director of Legal Affairs for the party, disclosed that the NDC’s 24-hour economy proposals can be meaningful only with the support of journalists, adding that, “So we are pleading with you, let us build a relationship anchored on mutual respect.”
