THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) is said to be targeting the Ashanti Region for 2024 victory by segmenting the region into three parts for effective campaign.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE from deep throat sources indicate that the move is to break the back of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which continuously enjoys support in the region.
The sources said each of the three segments will be given a campaign manager to work out the NDC agenda.
The main opposition party believes that the region, which is the second most populous in the country after the Greater Accra Region, has been the strong fortress of the NPP.
In the last general election, the NPP won 42 out of the 47 parliamentary seats in the region, while the NDC secured four, with the remaining one going to the independent candidate who is occupying the Fomena seat.
The NDC said the region helped the NPP presidential candidate, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to win his first and second terms.
Secret AgendaÂ
The NDC sources told the paper that breaking the back of the NPP means winning substantial votes in the Ashanti Region to deprive its rivals of the needed votes.
The sources said the NDC believes the strategic division of the region into three will help its course to recapture power.
The paper has learnt, however, that the plan is not receiving support from the current Ashanti Regional NDC executives led by Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews.
The sources stated that the regional chairman in particular considers the plan as a sabotage.
