Lieutenant Colonel Abass Atuluk has taken over as the new Commanding Officer (CO) of the 2 Battalion of Infantry at Apremdo near Takoradi in the Western Region.

He took over from Colonel Emmanuel Opare Nyante, who has completed his one-year tenure as the commanding officer and he is heading to the Kofi Annan International Peace-Keeping Training Centre in Accra.

A colourful parade and pulling-out ceremony was held last Friday at the 2 Battalion of Infantry in line with military custom to bid the outgoing CO, Col Emmanuel Nyante farewell.

Addressing the gathering, Brigadier General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command who was the guest of honour praised the outgoing CO for his exemplary leadership and achievements within his short stay at the 2BN.

He noted that the Southern Command countered on the Great Second Battalion to be there when it mattered most particularly when responding to natural disasters, preparing for contingencies, confronting criminal network and disrupting their modus operandi.

He noted that 2BN continued to provide the people of Ghana and neighbours a chance to live in peace and that under the command of Southern Command, 2BN had been challenged to achieve more with less.

According to him, the outgoing CO built a legacy of leadership and integrity among the officers, men and women under his command and harnessed resources to achieve specific aims with dexterity and also had strong relationship with the unit’s corporate partners.

Brigadier Oppong-Peprah mentioned that as a result of the exemplary leadership of the outgoing CO, he managed to achieve some success including the reconstruction of a cookhouse to the standard of a first class restaurant.

He also mentioned the construction of a borehole to improve on water supply, construction of an operational complex christened ‘Akwa Complex’ which was first of its kind in the Ghana Armed Forces, among other achievements.

Colonel Nyante was grateful to the Military High Command for giving him the opportunity to command the great unit.

He called on the men and women of the unit to continue to make 2BN proud wherever they found themselves.

He then urged the military officers to offer their support to the new commanding officer in his effort to uphold law and order to keep citizens safe and maintain peace in the country.

From Emmanuel Opoku, Apremdo
