Flt. Sgt. Nicholas Owusu Frimpong
The Police are on the heels of a man who fired celebratory shots from his AK 47 at the A&C Shopping Mall at East Legon in Accra.
The video about the incident has been reviewed by the law enforcement personnel who have accordingly placed a bounty of GH¢5,000 for information that would lead to his apprehension.
Some who heard the shots mistook them for firecrackers only to discover that they originated from an assault rifle.
The possession of an assault rifle of the caliber of an AK 47 is illegal by persons outside the security agencies let alone firing same in public.
Discharging a firearm in public without lawful and necessary occasion under Section 209 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) is an offence, according to the police.
There is no doubt that when the source of the shots is arrested, he would face the law.
The police would be interested in finding out how he came by the weapon.
