The chief and people of Nkroful, the birth and original burial place of the first president of Ghana, Osagyefor Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the Western Region, have appealed to the government to provide the area with the requisite developmental projects to give Nkroful a facelift.

They indicated that there was the need to upgrade existing infrastructure in the area and initiate more developmental projects to befit the status of the country’s first president.

They said it is pathetic to note that Nkroful, Nkrumah’s hometown and the District capital of Ellembelle cannot boast of a district hospital.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview yesterday at a programme to mark Nkrumah’s birthday celebration, the Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuwah V mentioned that Nkroful was in dire need of a District Hospital.

“We currently have a CHPS Compound but we need a district hospital to cater for the ever-increasing population in the area. At least one of the district hospitals being constructed under agenda 111 can be brought to Nkroful,” he added.

He said the road from Esiama to Nkroful and Nkroful to Aiyinase main road needed to be fixed to befit and glorify the illustrious son who devoted all his time and energy towards Ghana’s liberation struggle.

He paid glowing tribute to the erstwhile Kufour-led NPP government for creating the Ellembelle District which was carved out of the Nzema-East District in 2008 but bemoaned the current state of Nkroful as the District capital of Ellembelle.

He praised the current government for the rehabilitating the Kwame Nkrumah museum in Accra but was not happy that during its inauguration, chiefs from Nkroful were not invited.

He described Kwame Nkrumah as a selfless person who was committed to developing other parts of the country and Africa to the neglect of his hometown.

“Because Nkrumah was selfless he did not bring much development to Nkroful but rather developed other parts of the country”, he added.

He then advised the youth who have the motive of going into politics to make money to desist.

He mentioned some of the activities to mark Nkrumah’s birthday as clean up exercise, symposium, talent show, football gala and a durbar.
