The objective of the committee is to encourage responsible journalism, address complaints, and serve as the NMC spokesperson for media-related issues within its authority.
The committee’s jurisdiction will cover Northern, Savannah, and North East regions, overseeing media activities in these areas.
Addressing participants, the Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh stressed the importance of close collaboration between the media in the region and the RMAC to maintain high journalistic standards.
He encouraged members to persevere in their responsibilities despite the anticipated challenges.
While acknowledging the Commission’s limitations in providing financial compensation, Mr. Ayeboafoh emphasised the spiritual reward that comes from their work.
He encouraged the committee members to see their service as a valuable contribution to the nation in the absence of such resources.
He advised journalists to prioritise the public’s interest over personal agendas, emphasising the importance of maintaining the peace and stability that the country currently enjoys.
Dr. Illiasu Adam, a member of the Northern Regional Advisory Committee (RMAC), appealed for support from stakeholders especially the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to ensure that the committee performs its duty successfully.
Dr. Adam noted that the committee’s training sessions with media organisations would focus on addressing complaints from individuals and groups about journalistic practices in the region and assured that the committee would work diligently to meet expectations during its term.
