N&MC Refers Twerking Nurse Issue to Disciplinary Department

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) has referred the issue involving a female nurse who was caught on video twerking to its intelligence and disciplinary department.

The Council, in a statement issued by its public affairs directorate on the video that has gone viral on social media platforms, said “… in line with the Council’s regulations, the matter has been referred to the intelligence and disciplinary department at Council to engage with the general public and seek their assistance to identify the nurse in the said video for the necessary disciplinary actions to be taken.”

It said although the identity of the nurse is unknown, “the Council disassociates itself from the video and also states unequivocally that it places great importance on issues of professional conduct for Nurses and Midwives, thus condemns such act.”

The Council in the statement reminded all practitioners of Section 7, (a) of the Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, which states, ” Upload the reputation of your profession, your behaviour must at all times bring credit to the profession, and Section 7 (b) Desist from the abuse of social media and ensure that it does not interfere with your professional practice/service provision.”

Council will like to assure all nurse Assistants, nurses, Midwives and our stakeholders and the public that it will continue to actively exercise it regulatory mandate against such unprofessional conducts that bring the name of the profession into disrepute.
