No Baby Theft At Effia Nkwanta Hospital

The management of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has debunked claims that a baby, purported to have been delivered by a female teenager at the hospital, has been stolen.

A video which was circulating recently on social media had someone accusing staff of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi of stealing the baby of a teenage mother.

According to the person in the video, (yet to be identified), the  pregnant teenager was referred to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital from the Kwesimintsim Hospital, near Takoradi, due to some complications.

He claimed that after she safely delivered a baby girl at the hospital, an amount of GH¢180 was demanded from the family so the baby could be put in an incubator because she was premature.

He asserted that as the family could not provide the said amount of money, the baby was pronounced dead the following day and the family was told the baby had been already taken to the mortuary.

However, speaking to journalists, the Medical Director of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, Mr. Joseph Tambil, debunked the assertions and stressed that nobody’s baby has been stolen or missing at the hospital.

A statement issued by the management of the hospital also said, “We have an open-door policy as management, so our doors are always opened and anyone can come to seek clarity on all issues including this particular one.”

“The matter has been reported to the Police and is currently being investigated,” the statement added.
