yDemocracy International with NORSAC officials with stakeholders
NORSAC, in collaboration with Democracy International (DI), is set to implement the USAID/Ghana Performance Accountability Activity (GPAA) across the five regions of Northern Ghana.
The GPAA program aims to deepen accountability and promote citizens participation in local governance, focusing on improving public sector service delivery and adhering to quality standards.
The USAID/GPAA is a five-year USAID funded program and will build on existing Ghanaian strategies, programs, and capacities, and leverage on related support being provided by USAID and other donors to reinforce ongoing Ghanaian efforts to promote transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance.
This was made known at a sensitization forum held in Tamale in the Northern region to discuss issues of inclusivity, sustainability, collaboration, behavior-driven approaches, promises to deliver immediate and lasting impacts of the project.
The Deputy Chief of Party of GPAA, Linda Ofori-Kwafo said the $19 million initiative will enhance the capacity of government partners including ministries, agencies and targeted 70 focal districts Assemblies, as well as Civil Society and Community-based Organizations to implement behavior-led capacity building and institutional strengthening interventions.
The Executive Director of NORSAAC, Mohammed Awal Alhassan, noted that the initiative will provide an opportunity for citizens to connect effectively with public sector institutions in ensuring accountability not only at the national level but more importantly at the decentralized Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) level where a significant portion of the national resources are expended and complemented by local resource mobilization.
He urged stakeholders to be much involved in all activities of the project to ensure that the project is sustainable.
