Northern Region Begins Random Covid-19 Testing

Dr. John B. Eleeza

The Northern Regional Health Directorate has commenced random testing of residents for Covid-19 in the region.

The Northern Regional Health Director, Dr. John B. Eleeza, who confirmed this to DGN Online said the health directorate started with vendors and inmates of the Tamale Central prison.

He noted that the random testing will give the directorate a fair idea of the level of the virus in the region.

“Most people do not show any symptoms but they are carrying the virus and spreading it, which is more dangerous and that’s why we need to test as many people as we can .”

Dr. Eleeza appealed to residents to cooperate with the team anytime they see them around assuring that those who will test positive will be treated at no cost to them.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has commenced testing of Covid-19 samples for Northern, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East and North East regions in Tamale in the Northern region.

The Tamale Testing Center at the TTH can test between 300 to 600 samples daily.

The Northern Region has recorded 36 confirmed Covid-19 cases with one death.
