NPP Flagbearer Aspirant Balloting Postponed

The balloting for the four remaining flagbearer candidates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was put on hold yesterday after an in-camera meeting between the aspirants and members of the Presidential Election Committee.

It came just 24 hours after former Trade and Industry Minister, John Alan Kyerematen, withdrew from the contest.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the postponement was made to allow the Presidential Election Committee to include proposals from aspirants and their representatives into the exercise’s modalities.

Spokesman for the Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, stated that a new date for the balloting exercise would be set once the modalities were developed.

“The EC, aspirants and their representatives, we received some proposals, we deliberated same, and we have agreed to incorporate these as part of the guidelines for November 4.

“We have also agreed that soon thereafter, we shall proceed with the balloting,” he told the media after the closed-door meeting.

“We have agreed to proceed with the guidelines. And like I said, when we are done, we will again serve you notice of the guidelines and soon thereafter we will proceed with the balloting,” he added.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin noted that all concerns raised by some aspirants were being addressed, and that people who complained about some happenings at various voting centres had had their voices heard.

“Those who perpetrated those crimes have also been invited and have been heard. The committee will issue its full report and will make it known to the public, after due consultation with stakeholders in the party,” he intimated.
