The New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday began vetting of aspirants for the various national executive positions, beginning with the screening of Nasara Coordinator aspirants.

Fourteen candidates turned up at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters in Accra to go through the vetting process, which was very peaceful.

The process forms part of preparations towards the election of new executives for the NPP, which will be held in July in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

Some candidates who spoke to the media expressed optimism towards the outcome of the exercise and seized the opportunity to convey their campaign messages.

Ahmed Zaruk Nuhu said his vision is to make the Nasara wing of the NPP an election-winning machine for the party.

“If I win, we are going to make Nasara election winning machinery. It means that Nasara is going to determine the outcome of elections in the country,” he said.

Mr Nuhu added that he, together with his team, would be working to make Nasara a conspicuous group in the party and a force to reckon with in national politics. The Zongos, he claimed, would be made one of the strongholds of the NPP.

Ali Suraj, another Nasara aspirant, claimed he is a visionary leader who deserves the mandate of the delegates as Nasara Coordinator.

He said he is not the type of leader who would wait to get into office before starting projects to benefit the people hence, he had created an official website for the Nasara wing.

Speaking on his visions, he said he would ensure that the Zongo Development Fund is entrusted into the care of the Nasara coordinators.

He added that he would make sure that the Hajj process is handled by the Nasara Coordinators. According to him, since they are largely Muslims, they would be the right people to know how well to manage Hajj.

Former Ashanti Regional Coordinator of Nasara, Salihu Yahaya Bo, said he is coming to sell the idea of Nasara to the Zongo communities and will always go for their interests.

“I am coming to make sure that the Zongo fraternity does understand the policies of the NPP because most of our policies are in tandem with some provisions in the Holy Qu’ran,” he posited.

Another Nasara Coordinator aspirant, Abdulai Iddrisu Dipantiche, said his ambition is to educate the youth and empower them to achieve their full potentials so that they can extricate themselves from the propaganda of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Former Ghana’s Ambassador to Guinea, S.M Shariff, who is also in the race, was hopeful that the experience he acquired as former Nasara Club chairman in the Ashanti Region is going to be his trump card for victory.

He indicated that he would establish a proper database for all the Nasara communities in the country.

“I will make sure we get a correct database. And not only that, we will have a demography of every constituency so that when we move into any Zongo community, we will know the dominant ethnic group there and speak in the language they understand,” he averred.

Alhaji Aziz Haruna Futa also noted that the NPP had shown that it has great love for the Zongo communities, contrary to what had been circulated through a section of the media by the NDC spin doctors.
