The Women’s Wing Maidens (WWM), a female empowerment group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has held a two-day sensitisation programme on reproductive health for young females in the Bono Region.
Organised at the Wenchi and Sunyani Constituencies, the programme educated about 800 teenage girls on their sexual and reproductive health rights.
The young ladies were taken through topics such as reproductive health, sexual abuse and economic empowerment by experts in the community.
Packages of sanitary pads, deodorants, toothpaste and toothbrushes, liquid soap, disinfectants and other toiletries were shared to the young ladies to encourage them to practise good personal hygiene.
The MP for Wenchi Constituency, Prof. Gyan Baffour, lauded WWM for their efforts and encouraged them to embark on such projects more frequently while encouraging the young ladies to focus on their education and strive to achieve success.
He also encouraged the girls to take their academic education seriously and eschew all forms of deviant behaviour that would jeopardise their future.
The Bono Regional Women Organiser, Mrs. Ama Amponsah, promised to champion the cause of reproductive health rights for young ladies in the region.
She said the programme formed part of the group’s agenda to empower young women to aspire to greater heights.
