NPP’s Rev Asante Antwi Dies

The Most Rev Dr. Asante-Antwi

The Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Asante-Antwi has passed on aged 84.

The former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, who after retiring as clergy became active in politics and was a strong New Patriotic Party (NPP) advocate, reportedly passed on in the early hours of yesterday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

Madam Amma Busia, a leading member of the NPP in a tribute while sobbing, said, “He was very close to me. I remember when we were at Legon together, he adopted me as his mother and never called my name. He called me ‘Maame’. I told his wife to stop cooking for him during weekends when I cooked for him. I adopted one of his daughters and took care of her from her primary school days until she got to secondary school. I also met him when both of us were members of the Council of State. We later served in the Afoko Committee of the NPP. May his soul rest in peace.”

Until his sudden passing, Rev. Asante Antwi was the immediate-past Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the NPP and was a member of the party’s Council of Elders.
