The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has appealed to the Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, to help fund the repairs of its secretariat in Accra.

The NUGS secretariat is in urgent need of repair and the cost is expected to be substantial, according to its President, Emmanuel Yiadom Boakye.

He said that the MP is a former President of NUGS and they would need him to help in funding the repair works.

At a visit to the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, the NUGS executives used the opportunity to honour Mr. Annoh-Dompreh by presenting to him a portrait for his contributions to education in his constituency.

The NUGS President said the MP had been supportive to education with the provision of calculators, mathematical sets, books and organisational free classes to students as well as the facilitation of scholarships for his constituents.

“What we are doing here will signal other MPs to support education,” Mr. Boakye indicated as he handed over the portrait to the MP.

In a response, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh thanked the NUGS executives for the honour and urged the NUGS to continue to be more collaborative.

He acknowledged the yawning gap in the provision of educational facilities and said while the government is doing its bit, there was still the need for support from corporate organisations and philanthropic individuals.

“Local people can do more in education to identify problems, plan, coordinate, facilitate all project activities and report periodically on the progress of the project,” the MP stated.

He enumerated a number of educational programmes undertaken to hone education in the constituency, particularly the construction and stocking of a library in the Nsawam Adoagiri.

According to him, this influenced the outcome of the high performance of Eastern regional schools in the last BECE.
