Catherine Afeku

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine Abelema Afeku, has said her constituents will forever be grateful to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the various road construction being undertaken in the constituency, especially in the cocoa-growing areas.

Besides, she applauded the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for the road infrastructure investment made in the oil and gas enclave of the region and commended the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Ministry of Roads and Highways for also prioritizing some road projects.

Ms. Afeku made the statement when President Akufo-Addo visited the constituency during his two-day working tour of the region recently to officially inaugurate a community mining project.

She was hopeful the ongoing road projects and others when completed would drive the socio-economic development of the people in the Nzema East Municipality.

The MP mentioned some of the road projects as the bitumen surfacing of the 30-kilometre (km) Gwira Anyinase-Gwira Wiawso feeder road and the bitumen surfacing of the 21.1-km Asaasetre–Gyampre Junction road (phase 1).

The rest included the bitumen surfacing of the 19.40-km Asaasetre—Gyampre feeder road (phase 2) and the bitumen surfacing of the 37.60-km Kutukrom–Tabakrom feeder road.

She said the total length of the 108-km road projects were being constructed at a cost of GH¢148,538,956.47.

 Other Projects

She mentioned other projects currently ongoing as the construction of Axim Sea Defence wall, a mini sports complex, construction of Axim Fishing Harbour, construction of DVLA offices and the creation of a cocoa district at Gwira Anyinase.

She also mentioned that some communities in the northern parts of the constituency had been linked to the national grid and telecommunication network.

“Today, we have brought some level of development to Gwira Kutukrom Gwira Banso, Gwira Eshiem, Gwira Bamiankor and Gwira Tumantu. Government is poised to preserve the land and create job opportunities for the youth,” she emphasized.

She, therefore, pleaded with the chiefs and people of the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency and the entire people of Nzema to retain President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the upcoming 2020 general elections to continue his good works.
