Odike Speaks On Corruption

Founder of United People’s Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai aka ‘Odike,’ has urged government to implement policies to make corruption risky in the various institutions across the country.

According to him, the best way of eliminating corruption, which has over the years impacted negatively on Ghana’s growth, is to introduce policies and programmes that would make it unattractive.

Odike told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that “we should create a system that will help prevent corruption rather than allowing people to commit corrupt acts before we use the law to punish them.”

The UPP leader said he disclosed this at a recent meeting with President Akufo-Addo and other leaders of the various political parties in the country.

“I told Nana Akufo-Addo that we need to implement policies and programmes to make corruption in our various institutions almost impossible, and that is the surest way of fighting the corruption quandary.

“There are too many loopholes in our various institutions, and this therefore makes it easier for people to steal from the national coffers and I told Nana Akufo-Addo that we should seal the loopholes.

“President Akufo-Addo is determined and passionate about making corruption a thing of the past so he assured me that the presidency will soon invite me so I will offer my ideas to help stop corruption.”

Odike also said he would not hesitate to take an appointment from President Akufo-Addo, saying “I am still a playing role to develop the country without any post.

According to him, the development of the country should be the collective responsibility of all, devoid of politics.

“President Akufo-Addo is on the right track so needs the support of all and sundry.”
