Offuman Residents Defecate In Bush

OVER TWENTY thousand residents in the Offuman Traditional Area in the Techiman North Municipality have been defecating in the bushes, as there is no public toilet to serve the community.

The community, which is known for yam farming, attracts traders from all over the country, but lacks public toilet facilities, compelling residents and visitors to attend nature’s call in the bush.

“We use to have one public toilet but it has broken down. The community was fortunate for allocation of one million dollars per constituency under the Middle Belt Development Authority, for the construction of a toilet facility, which begun about four years ago.

“Even though it has been completed, it is still in the bush because it lacks water facility, since it is water closet. It is always under lock and some of the fixtures (louvers blades) and other things are being stolen,” the assembly man for the area, Baffoe K Bernard, disclosed.

The assembly man disclosed that efforts through the assembly to get the authority to open the facility proved futile.

The Gyasehene of Offuman Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Ansah, appealed to the government to impress upon the authority to open the facility.

“It has taken too long. How can a small toilet take three to four years to construct? When you hear the amount expended on it you will marvel,” he pointed out.

The queen mother of the area, Nana Akosua Amoabea II, blamed the District Chief Executive (DCE) for lackadaisical attitude towards development projects in the Offuman traditional area.
