One Killed In Fresh Crash

One person died on the spot in a gory accident that occurred at Aboade on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta main road in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.

Four others who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the Agona-Nkwanta Health Centre for treatment.

The accident occurred when a Kia truck with registration number AS 6005-09 from Agona-Nkwanta heading towards Takoradi veered off its lane onto the opposite side of the road.

The Kia truck which was loaded with logs subsequently collided with a Man Diesel truck with the number AS 6053-18 which was coming from the opposite direction.

The Kia truck driver, whose name was given as Francis Fynn, 23, died on the spot.

DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the accident mentioned the names of the four injured persons as Christopher Mensah, 18, who was the Kia truck driver’s mate.

The rest were Frank Cobbinah, 19; Isaac Toffer, 38, driver of the Man Diesel truck and Vincent Hoomey, 22, driver’s mate who are all receiving treatment at the Agona-Nkwanta Health Centre.

11 Injured

In a related development, 11 persons on board a Sprinter bus with registration Number AW 402-13 sustained various degrees of injury in an accident near the Apostle Kojo Safo Junction on Tuesday morning at about 9.50am

The accident happened a few meters from the accident spot which occurred last Sunday at Gomoa Mpota near Winneba Junction.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency at the scene, Station Officer One, Alex Quainoo of the Winneba Directorate of the Ghana Fire Service, said at about 10.00 hours, they received an information that a sprinter bus was involved in an accident around Gomoa Mpota.

He said on arrival at scene, the driver, Yaw Yeboah and 10 other people on board the bus had been taken out of the vehicle by some inhabitants of Gomoa Mpota.   The victims were rushed to the Trauma and Specialists Hospital at Winneba.

The accident scene was littered with bags of oranges and other personal stuff.

Mr Quanioo said information the service men gathered from the accident site indicated that the vehicle was from New Edubiasie heading towards Kasoa.

“When they reached a section of the road, some meters after Apostle Safo Junction, one of the bus’ tyres got burst and as a result the vehicle somersaulted.”

Later when the Ghana News Agency accompanied the Fire and the Police officers to the Hospital, it gathered that five of the passengers who sustained minor injuries had been treated waiting to be discharged, while the driver, Yaboah, Isaac Adu aged 20, Faustian Osie 42, Salome Buafo 52 and Gladys Mensah 63, were still receiving treatment.
