Otumfuo Ends Mother’s Funeral With Muslim Prayers

Otumfuo touching the Holy Quran as Dr. Bawumia and Osei Assibey look on

THE TWO-WEEK long funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II – who died at age 111 – officially came to an end on Friday with Muslim prayers.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, clad in white cloth, joined thousands of Muslims at the Central Mosque in Kumasi to worship Allah and give thanks to Him for the peacefulness of the event.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II’s grand funeral attracted many important dignitaries, including presidents, to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

With the Asantehene and his team of traditional rulers to worship Allah, were Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi and other dignitaries.

In a speech read on behalf of Otumfuo by the Akyeamehene, Baffuor Nsuase Poku, the Asantehene wholeheartedly thanked Ghanaians for their unflinching support during the funeral rites.

He particularly commended President Akufo-Addo and all other dignitaries that trooped to Kumasi to help make his mother’s funeral memorable.

At the closing stages of the prayerful event, Otumfuo meditated on the Holy Quran, which the Muslim Imams would use to offer special prayers for him.

There were spontaneous shouts of joy in the mosque when the Asante monarch firmly grabbed the Holy Book and meditated on it.
